Pros: quick and courteous customer service, good, reliable signal, extra time, calling area and free minutes

Cons: Can be Pricey, can switch to roam unexpectedly, contract length

The Bottom Line: I will be a verizon customer for life, all my calls go through anytime, anywhere I go, even on mountain climbing trips.

By Jason Sterling

I have been with AT&T before I switched over to Verizon Mobile Phone Service. I must admit I have avoided using a cell phone for 10 years now. Why? I asked my very cell phone savvy friends and was consistently hearing everyones horror stories about cell phones and how experienced dropped calls, no signal, rude customer service agents. But 6 months ago I decided that I needed an easier way for my clients to get a hold of me, so I did some research using the search engines and began asking clients, friends and family what they thought of their wireless provider. I even read consumer reports. The one provider that seemed to get the least complaints was verizon wireless.

I have a home based business and I distribute water filters for small businesses and the residential market. On my website, I have a toll free number routed directly to my cell phone. Then one day, my girlfriend was raving about this new LG Dare phone which is like having an Iphone but without the $600 price tag, she'd just purchased with free-cellular-phone-deals.com for 150 bucks which would always have a loud and clear signal, and never dropped a call(she'd previously been with AT&T). When I drove over to my local verizon dealer I found the same LG Dare phone for 200 bucks. Recently. I bought a LG Dare phone with verizon at free-cellular-phone-deals.com, and a few months later my experience has been as follows:

1. The consistent clarity of the calls here in Washington is unbelievable. Every call I make and receive is always loud and clear. I am a city dweller for the most part, but when I'm traveling cross country in a car to meet with clients, or go fishing up to British Columbia, I always get a good signal. I find myself talking on my LG cell phone at home cause it sounds better than my land line. I can only remember maybe 8 calls being dropped and as soon as I called back the reception would be good.

2. I get the Nationwide Select with unlimited messaging 900 anytime minutes and unlimited night+weekend mins. for 80 bucks a month, it's not the least expensive plan but, you I was tired of being billed for every text message I sent with my old carrier. I believe the cheapest plan they offer is 40 bucks a month. For 450 anytime mins. and unlimited night and weekend mins. I can't afford for a call to be dropped when I am in the middle of closing a deal to sell a $5000 water filter system, it is important a get a good & reliable signal, whatever the cost.

3. Whenever I want to change something about my plan customer service always answers in less than a minute. What is refreshing is that these calls are not routed to a third world country. I have consistently been able to easily resolve any questions I had about my cell phone or service. I am not hard to get along with and I have never called to complain about anything, I found the agents polite, courteous and caring.

4. Consistent, clear signal all up and down the west and east coast, fair price, great features, good customer service, for a carrier to pull that off it is a miracle? If I had two things on my wish list about verizon is that they could lower the service plan rate and I wish I could get reception in the subways but I don't think anyone has that technology yet. I will share this one tidbit with you. I now believe that a carrier is only as good as the phone will allow it to be and vice versa, so when you have a good carrier like Verizon or even T-Mobile, the signal will never be good if the cell phone you have is poor quality. I say this because I also know of people that have bought a Motorola W385 with verizon and the signal is horrible, meanwhile the Motorola RAZR 2 V9m(also with verizon) are very reliable exceptionally high quality phones. Follow the advice of a guy who has gone through 4 bad free cell phones I got through a promotion.

The main reason why I switched is because Verizon Wireless employs CDMA digital technology. This is far superior to TDMA which is the system employed by AT & T. As far as AT&T goes I would be in a good cell area and calls would not go through, and went directly to voice mail, I have actually lost a few sales because of that.

I am still a loyal verizon customer, and some of my friends and clients have been so impressed with the call quality of my LG voyager that a total of 15 of them now have my same phone with verizon and they have no complaints at all.
By the way, the phone I've been using is the LG Voyager. Here are some of my last thoughts:

If your going to sign a contract binding you to a specific carrier and phone, do some research and make sure that both the carrier and the phone are of top notch, reliable quality. Doing so, can very easily avoid unnecessary stress in your life and having to pay hefty termination fees and not to mention less visits to my message therapist. One last tidbit, don't always trust the salesperson so much because they are trained to say whatever it takes to sell you the phone, plus the more phones they sell the more money they make, instead ask a friend or come back to free-cellular-phone-deals to read reviews on the phone you are thinking of buying.

Verizon Wireless - #1 Carrier Rated By Consumer Reports

It is like a fresh of breath air, when you can rely on the higher quality of cell phone service that Verizon provides. Many folks don’t realize when you subscribe to a wireless service plan and buy a cell phone, what makes or breaks your cell phone experience is all the other cell phone towers and gigantic communication network that you don’t see. Mind you, Verizon Wireless holds the gold medal in providing the most widespread network or coverage in America.

What makes Verizon Unique?

  • 100 percent fiber network - "Which, extends all the way to customers' homes and our in-home FiOS network makes this all possible, This powerful network combination means we can capitalize on the interactivity of broadband, the mobility of wireless and the entertainment experience of TV. " said Bob Ingalls, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Telecom,
  • If you reside in the west coast of United States; you will have no choice but to select Verizon Wireless.
  • Consistency in high quality service

Consumer reports conducted a survey in Sept 2007 and asked 49,000 cell phone subscribers to participate. Verizon had the highest ratings in each metropolitan city. As well, they wore the gold medal for best carrier in the last 2 surveys.

I just want to be realistic;

I just want to be realistic; you may still experience dropped calls, static lines, circuits’ busy signal, and no service with Verizon Wireless. Especially if you do an extreme sport and are in the middle of no where, and you see no cell phone towers in sight. You will still get errors on your phone bills, and may come across a cankerous customer service rep when you call in the Verizon wireless. There is no such thing as a perfect wireless carrier. Verizon had the highest score starting in the 70s out of 100 in all 17 cities. The only other contender that comes close to Verizon was T-Mobile. This means hopefully 7 out of 10 times, you will get a positive experience with Verizon Wireless. Therefore, if you depend on mobile communication as a business person, your most reliable carrier would be Verizon Wireless.

What is also real nice about Verizon wireless, is that you get free roaming and free nationwide long distance. Since their coverage is so expansive, you are sure to get that long distance call you have been waiting for. If you went with just a local digital choice plan where you would use your verizon phone to call locally, you will have to pay as you go for long distance. If you wish to economize on long distance phone bills, you can opt in for the In-network calling for an additional monthly fee to get free long distance. In-network allows you to call another Verizon subscriber for free as long as both cell phones are in the Verizon network. Family share calling plans are the way to go, if you want to stay in touch with our family. If you want to add another family line, it only cost $9.99 per additional line. For the most part, in the above chart, if you pay $79.99 for the America choice family share plan, you automatically get 2 lines for that service. This way your whole family of 4 for example can share the pools of minutes in this case $79.99 a month. If you take advantage of the free In-Network calling among your family members, it is realistic to say you won’t have to pay for additional minutes.

What does this mean to you? If your credit score is below 550, you will have to fore go a Verizon service contract and instead sign up for a cellular phone with: T-Mobile. You have a better chance of being credit approved for a digital phone with one of the other wireless carriers such as what I mentioned above or with: T-Mobile, Nextel, Sprint or Alltel. However, if you credit rating is above 680, you shouldn’t have any thing to worry about. Go ahead and sign up for a Service contract with Verizon Wireless.
