This is me and my son

Hi, my name is Janet and I'm a mother of one. I am a tennis coach can own a small business helping my athletes perform using gait analysis. I have many clients through North American and Canada. Sometimes during preparation for international Tennis Junior championships, it's not uncommon for me to get a $2000 phone bill from my local telephone company. So I went in search for a free long-distance service that I could use at a wireless hotspot, hotel room, Park, Airport or from my home.

I tried

  1. VOIP with with Vonage, but I still had a hefty phone bill.
  2. Unlimited Long distance local telephone company, that's my almost heart attack when I got a phone bill for $1500 one month.

I am going to share with you the pros and cons of using a service I found which is 100% reliable called Skype.

pros

Free Unlimited local and international long-distance calling. I love this feature. I saved over $3000 in the last 12 months using Skype. Because I have relatives in Cuba, Argentina, the Canary Islands Spain, Greece, Berlin, I used to spend hundreds of dollars on international phone cards to keep in touch with all my relatives around the world. The best part is the person that the person on other end doesn't have to use Skype speak with me.

  • Installation was very easy to set up. I simply connected the Skype into my USB port on my Macintosh computer as well as on my Windows 7 desktop computer. It was very easy to do is follow the wizard to set up the Skype software utility.

  • Couple of months of the year I spend in hotel rooms because I'm coaching my high school tennis athletes, what I like is that I can take my Skype with me as well as my Macintosh mac Pro to my Skype into the Macintosh computer to make calls anywhere I want using a very high-speed Internet connection. I was able to find some special phones that work specifically with a Skype at my local brick-and-mortar electronics store.

  • No one can argue with me that I saved over $3000 using the Skype. I'm a high volume long-distance caller. Perhaps you do not have a $1000 long-distance phone bill every month. I figured that I was paying $29.99 with my voice over IP provider. I was also paying approximately $70 a month to my local telephone company for 2500 minutes of Unlimited North America calls. Now I don't have to pay $70 a month to my local telephone provider, $29.99 to my voice over IP provider. Compare only paying $20 a year to $29.99 a month. The money I saved on long-distance, I donated it to my church. They appreciated $3000 check because it went towards feeding the homeless every Sunday for the next 12 months.

    cons;

    This is me and my son

    During power outages, I wasn't able to connect with my tennis players. Because I have different kids playing in different tournaments simultaneously on the same weekend, this gave me a challenge. I live in Florida, and I certainly have experience my share of hurricanes. So when the Internet connection is down or your power company is down, he will not be able to use the phone to make any outbound calls.

  • Six months of the year travel with my husband and our motor home and it just became cost prohibitive to use our wireless provider monthly data Internet plan, so we tried a satellite-based Internet connection. Unfortunately, I try to Skype using my satellite Internet connection and it doesn't work.

  • When you sign up for a Skype phone number, you will be assigned an area code of your choice. My area code is available, however in some states the area code that you prefer to give out may not be available. I will be providing this list of area codes for use later on in a blog entry.

  • You can't walk your dog and still use the Skype unless you have a bodyguard holding your laptop but you'll have to walk very close to your bodyguard because you still have to connect the phone to Skype. You may end up tripping over in a telephone line and it may not be safe. Skype can be a replacement for your cell phone, I have a sister teaching English in Korea and it only cost 2 cents a minute on Skype to talk to her.

    Thank you for letting me share with you my review on the Skype. I will be uploading a how to tutorial soon. But I have to get back at helping my son get ready for his Karate championships. I am very grateful I can share this information to help families save on long distance calling.
